Will Julius Malema end up behind bars? #sabcnews

This as leave to appeal the five year sentence for unlawfully possessing of a firearm begins in earnest. Malema's legal team has a week to submit the application for leave to appeal. The court however dismissed the application by the defence to appeal the conviction. Julius Malema has been sentenced to five years direct imprisonment for unlawful possession of a firearm and two years imprisonment for unlawful possession of ammunition. The sentences will run concurrently. Malema was found guilty of contravening firearm controls when he discharged an automatic rifle in the air during the EFF's fifth birthday celebration in Mdantsane in 2018. The suspects, aged between 20 and 44 years, were tracked to Umlazi, south of Durban after police received intelligence that they were attempting to sell the stolen goods. A coordinated operation by the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit and the eThekwini District Task Team led to their arrest in the early hours of this morning. Jewellery worth an estimated three million rand, along with other items, have been recovered. According to KZN police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza, the suspects now face charges of business robbery and attempted murder, and are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate's Court this Wednesday...

The Ndimande siblings were extradited from Eswatini last year. They were then transferred to the Ebongweni Super Maximum Correctional Facility in Kokstad in January, due to security concerns. This comes more than a month after the US and Israel launched co-ordinated attacks on Iran. Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who has been mediating negotiations, announced during the early hours of this morning that the ceasefire was effective immediately. As part of the agreement, Iran agreed to allow vessels through the Hormuz Strait for two weeks, with their passage co-ordinated by the Iranian military. Iran also issued a 10-point plan, which includes, among other things, the complete cessation of war in Iran, Iraq, Lebanon and Yemen, lifting sanctions on Iran, the release of Iranian funds and frozen assets held by the US, compensation for reconstruction costs and that Iran commits to not seeking possession of any nuclear weapons. Public consultations have commenced- with the CRL Rights Commission meeting Hindu groups in Durban at the weekend. Initially the Commission was waiting for the Islamic month of Ramadaan to conclude. Currently the commission is facing backlash for the proposed establishment of the section 22 committee that seeks to regulate the church. Already the group called South African Church Defenders filed papers in the Johannesburg High Court seeking to interdict the Commission's activities, while also calling for the removal of CRL Rights Commission chairperson Thoko Mkhwanazi-Xaluva. South African Muslim Network Chairperson Dr. Faisal Suliman says there is no need for the committee because there are already existing regulations in the country to prohibit the abuse of religion and congregants... UPDATE: The CRL Rights Commission says it will continue its work unless instructed otherwise by a court of law.
