INTRO: The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) says it is going to take legal steps to challenge the guilty conviction of the party's leader, Julius Malema. This comes after the East London Regional Court in Ku Gompo City granted the defence leave to appeal the five-year sentence against Malema in the firearm discharge case. The court however dismissed the application by the defence to appeal the conviction. Julius Malema has been sentenced to five years direct imprisonment for unlawful possession of a firearm and two years imprisonment for unlawful possession of ammunition. The sentences will run concurrently. Malema was found guilty of contravening firearm controls when he discharged an automatic rifle in the air during the EFF's fifth birthday celebration in Mdantsane in 2018. INTRO: Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has visited the mother after one of the conjoined sithole twins who were separated at the Mankweng hospital outside Polokwane in Limpopo, died. The twins had been separated almost three weeks ago. Motsoaledi says the boy looked the strongest after a successful operation to separate them. The twins had been conjoined at the abdomen. INTRO: Hundreds of people living with autism marched to Parliament today to hand over a memorandum to various government departments, including the institution. The protest coincides with the start of the global commemorations of the World Autism month, which is observed in April. Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and People with Disabilities, Sindisiwe Chikunga, accepted the memorandum on behalf of government.
